Facebook is offering its users an application called "The Insider's Guide to Viral Marketing", which promises, among other things, to teach you how to expand distribution with Facebook Ads
and get the most out of marketing your brand on "Facebook Pages", which function as free user profiles for your brand, your band, or whatever it is you're selling. They encourage users to explore and employ available applications, such as one that might allow a customer to make reservations directly from their Facebook Page. By teaching Facebook users how to use Facebook's free tools for advertising, they also hope to lead them into some of the paid services, such as text ads on Facebook. All of this is appears to be part of the company's larger effort to entice more small businesses and individuals to employ Facebook as an advertising tool. While I don't expect them to catch up with Google in this area anytime soon, they do continue to dominate the world of social networking, social media marketing, and one day, perhaps, the world writ large.
