The internet is full

Caught this interesting article today:

We've taken broadband capacity as a given today. But imagine the day when there are "internet shortages" like power cuts. And a big reason this could indeed happen is videos, which take up much more bandwidth than other forms of files or media on the internet. If video can be blamed for bandwidth issues, maybe it's not a good idea for everyone and their uncle to be able to upload a video onto the internet. Does this mean regulation around who is allowed to post content? Or will the economics of business on the internet enable capacity expansion at a rate that allows us to not worry about these issues? New technologies could come to the rescue, according to the article, but there are no guarantees. Surfing the internet on a Monday morning could be the equivalent of trying to drive into work in Manhattan from New Jersey.
