WePlay.com - A Facebook for Athletes

LinkedIn is to business as WePlay.com is to sports. WePlay.com is a new social networking venture targeted at young athletes, their fans, and their parents. WePlay.com not only allows users to post pictures and profiles, but also allows them to upload videos of their games. For parents, the site allows for carpooling information and game and practice information. The site will also feature videos of professional athletes from their days in middle and high school sports, as well as current videos. For advertisers, WePlay.com offers huge revenue potential. WePlay will focus on middle and high school athletes – a fixed demographic with converging interests.

It seems, now, that Facebook is a great “general” site, but that more and more social networking sites are under development for users with specific interests. That is not to say that users of WePlay won’t also be on Facebook. But for advertisers, WePlay is a great opportunity to more effectively target a captive, known audience.
