With an ever increasing collection of social networking websites available today you have to wonder when people have time to update their status, friends lists and posted content across all of these different sites. Sites that integrate these various social repositories into one clean view (such as Hootsuite) are popping up to help address this ever increasing burden.
One site, called IFTTT (If This Then That) is taking integration a step further.
For those that have used IF statements in excel or any sort of conditional programming language the concept will be immediately familiar to you. For those that haven't, it won't take much longer.
IFTTT essentially allows your various applications for social networking, calendars blogs and email to work together based on conditions that you have set. For example, you could tell IFTTT that if you update your Facebook profile picture or post a new status, to update it on Twitter as well. Or to automatically backup your contacts list to a Google spreadsheet each time you add a new contact. Another popular one is to text you in the morning if it is raining so you know to pack an umbrella.
There are a tremendous amount of canned "recipes" available on IFTTT already but you also have the ability to create your own and it is surprisingly easy to do so. Each time a user creates, it is shared with the entire IFTTT community.
What also struck me was the fact that they have applications integrated into IFTTT which should cover most of your needs. Take a look, let me know what you think!
