Since Second Life was mentioned in our last session, here's a cool link about it. It's an interesting story from BBC News' Newsnight, where they actually broadcasted the show from Second Life (click on 'Watch the report'). It's a good and simple explanation about Second Life.
Also very interesting is a re-creation of an U2 concert at Second Life. For those of you, like me, who didn't have the chance to watch it 'live', here's a video recording of that concert.
Some 'almost dead' music artists are also using it as an attempt to re-launch their career. Suzanne Vega was one of them. She was interviewed in Second Life and played some songs to the online virtual audience. I've heard MC Hammer is thinking about something similar (which is kind of scary). At least, he has his own blog, he is experimenting with MySpace and meeting with the YouTube people.
Here's the Suzanne Vega link. If you fall asleep after the first 2 minutes, I don't blame you.
Where is this going? Who knows! I believe this is the next step to the MySpace generation. All it needs is a simpler way to allow users to create content (building, clothes, etc.). This will provide them with a simple way to express themselves, to connect with other people, and to escape the real world. Specially if they're Investment Bankers or Consultants....
