Yahoo will be launching Yahoo Marketplaces as an attempt to take a chunk of the online classifieds business (which has achieved growth of 47% in one year). This new unit will combine Yahoo Listings with other units and will be led by Hillary Schneider, former executive at Knight Ridder.
As a Craigslist fan, it will be interesting to see what approaches Yahoo takes to gain share in this market, and how Craigslist and Trader Publishing Company - both controlling 75% of the market - react to maintain their spots.
