Ebay Purchases Mobile Payment Zong

Lately, I have been reading a lot about mobile payments. Every digital marketing or internet retailer magazine or blog I read, the growth of mobile payments is heavily mentioned. Many companies have adopted or are adopting methods to increase payment accessbility for consumers. Google has created google wallet which allows cconsumer to keep their credit card information in one place and to be able to pay just by entering their email address.
Today, I read that Ebay has paid 240 Million dollars to acquire Zong, a mobile payment service payment provider. According to Ebay, this along with Paypal will give their customers more flexibility to pay.
According to Direct Marketing Online, "Menlo Park, Calif.-based Zong lets consumers verify payments on a mobile device or computer by entering a mobile telephone number and responding to an SMS prompt when making purchases."
It seems that now more and more companies are trying to expand from a sole online presence to a presence in the many forms of communications that we as consumers exchange each day. This includes phone presence as well as tablet presence. This has forced them to also explore the angle of mobile payments. I think for a growing digital company, a mobile presence and a way for mobile payments seems to be a must these days.
