Uber in London grows quickly thanks to cabs strike

Following our discussion in class, with mobile use comes the advantage of your exact location, and with it countless possibilities to find a cool restaurant, the hottest bar or even a taxi in one of the craziest cities.

Most of us find great advantage in these services and are ready to trade some privacy (disclosing your location) for service.

Not so welcoming are London’s iconic black taxis who got really upset in face of the entry of Uber to their city.

Uber is a service based purely on its app. It has been expanding city to city out of San Francisco and now are in some European centers. This new service makes it possible to get a taxi at the door of where you are, instead of having to walk to the closest avenue and wish you find a cab at 1am in London. The app is very simple to use and automatically pinpoints your location based on your smartphone’s GPS.

Going back to Uber entrance in the UK, funny enough the cabs went on strike and helped Uber quickly expand its customer base: Uber is claiming that it sign-ups have increased 850 percent due to the strikes.
