Will wireless ever take the place of the wired broadband connections to our homes?
It seems all the talk is about wireless/mobile being the present and the future, but it does have its limitations.
Even with the latest and greatest 4G mobile technology, download speeds are only 3-5Mb, which is far less than the speeds offered by your local cable company or Verizon Fios. Those wired connections into your home can range from 15Mb all the way up to 100Mb in the case of Fios.
Why the difference?
Fiber!
Fiber can offer virtually unlimited speed capacity, whereas wireless is limited by the available bandwidth or frequencies owned by the wireless companies. Wireless spectrum is a limited and scarce commodity controlled by the FCC.
So until someone figures out a way to create more spectrum and to deliver greater amounts of data over that spectrum, wired is still the King of speed!
