Amazon gains ground on Netflix, denies free ad-supported streaming service

Some potentially bad news ahead for Netflix as Amazon’s streaming services grows. Netflix, which still holds a commanding lead when comparing volume of broadband traffic, is by no means in any immediate danger; however, Amazon has more than doubled its share in the last 18 months. In reality, the growth sounds more impressive given the relatively low Amazon starting point; market share increased from 1.2% to 2.37%.

Rumor has it that Amazon is getting ready to release a free, ad-supported video service separate from its current Prime service. This could really shake things up for Netflix, which currently only offers a paid subscription model. 2015 will be in interesting year as we watch what happens in this relatively new space all tech giants want a piece of.
