Online holiday spending projected to rise 16%

Based on a ComScore research project, it is forecasted that this holiday, online spending will reach $61 billion this session. Mobile spending in the fourth quarter of 2013 is at a growth rate of 16%, and should continue to grow in the 2014 season.

The forecast is based on consumer optimism and the idea that people are finally viewing the economy on a brighter horizon. The past holiday season had shown signs of optimal growth, but still had lagging signals of people's impact from the last recession.

Retails are looking forward to the holiday sales this year and have added an extra "shopping" day between Thanksgiving and Christmas, hoping to boost sales and reacquire lost customers from previous years. In addition, stores are starting Black Friday sales earlier than ever, in an attempt to capture the customer first.
