Last December Google failed to acquire Groupon at a $6 billion offer. Nevertheless Google did not give up on the social shopping market: this year they have bought Dealmap in an attempt to retain some of Groupon's market.
Dealmap aggregates around 400,000 local and daily deals a and already has 2 million unique users. It is no surprise that Google is so interested in this company. Last April Google launched the Daily Offers service which offers 50% discounts in an attempt to enter in the daily discounts business. Now, with the help of the new acquisition, it is probable that Google will become a close competitor to Groupon.
But will they be able to surpass it?
