Bacardi launched a marketing campaign dubbed “Unwrap the Night” on Friday which simulates a personalized party experience using data from Facebook. The website recreates the experience of walking into a house party with music and images from a first-person perspective. The user receives a personalized and interactive experience. When you glance at your cell phone, your best friend’s name appears, you can select from a concoction of drinks from the drinks menu named after your friends, your photos appear in a montage on the wall, and towards the end someone opens a gift from you and a collection of your photos appear in a video-like series.
I think this is a great use of social media data to create a viral marketing campaign. It could be improved somewhat in that it is unclear how they chose which friends to appear and my supposed “best friend” wasn’t actually my best friend but it’s a really cool experience regardless.
