Can Marissa Mayer revitalize Yahoo?

Yahoo, one of the largest internet portals, has endured years of financial malaise and internal turmoil. But the end may be near as Marissa Mayer takes the helm at Yahoo. After 13 years at one of the most successful companies in the world, Mayer is now in the spotlight trying to reinvigorate a "beleaguered" and "troubled" organization. There are many challenges that Mayer should focus on:
1. Refocusing and reinvigorating culture. According to many employees, Yahoo's current culture poses a major obstacle to their success. Yahoo will benefit from the data-driven, risk-taking, reactive culture centered around technology.

2. Shifting focus to properties that are most valuable -- Flickr, Yahoo! email, sports and finance. Mayer should build up tech again at Yahoo, focusing on social search and rebooting Right Media will be key to her success.

Mayer possesses business acumen and tech talent. With such a wide range of product directions, she can steer in various directions. It’ll be interesting to see how she reorganizes, builds and invigorates over the next few weeks.
