The Internet: The Frugal Man's Style Savior

I'm a frugal (read cheap) man when it comes to clothes.  If I'm not sporting a coupon or sale that lobs at least a third off retail prices, I'm disappointed.  The downside is that playing the discount game is time consuming, so the time lost to save a few bucks makes the NPV head negative pretty quickly.

The internet is helping to change that.  The ladies will all be familiar with Guilt Group and other various sites, but internet tools and new eCommerce companies manufacturing and selling custom clothes direct to consumers are opening doors for frugal men seeking fashionable wares.

Two of my favorite resources are a blog, www.dappered.com, which provides alerts on good sales, distills the best buys and features concise reviews on the products.  Other content hunts out great values on the web and serves it up for the busy shopper.

An emerging ecommerce business model is creating tailored clothes, mostly dress shirts, trousers and jeans, and full suits, for men who  send their measurements to the website.  The business produces bespoke goods in the far east and ships them to your door step, usually at pretty reasonable prices. Lifehacker.com has a great review of the various purveyors of custom made threads.
