When I think to World of Mouth campaign, I think of great success of big companies, such as the one of Ford with the Ford Fiesta WOM campaign via social media. This is a striking example, but it represents only a little portion of what WOM is.
A close friend of mine works for a communication agency specialized in word of mouth campaigns for small companies. They count on a platform of members that subscribe to the agency website to "test" new product. Once a new campaign is launched, they run a survey to find, among their platform of users, people that are in line with the target of the new product. These selected people are sent 10 free samples of the product: one for their own use, 9 to give to potentially interested friends. Also, these people are asked to report their impression of the product, what they said to friends about it, and how friends reacted after trying it. The companies that choose WOM campaigns to advertise their product create buzz around it and also gather a great amount of information on what consumer think and how to improve their products. These campaigns are particularly suitable for small companies, as they are cheap relatively to the traditional advertising campaigns.
My friend is strongly convinced that WOM is the future of marketing - do you agree with her?
Have a look to the insider (her company blog) to get to know more about it!
