Intel's Big Bet on Wearables

Intel's Big Bet on Wearables

Intel has made a big bet on wearables with a differentiated strategy of bringing technology and fashion together. The company announced plans for a set of chips designed to support the category and buying Basis Science, maker of fitness-focused Basis Bands.

Intel's executives believe that the category of wearables has to move fast in terms of design and functionality in order to consolidate future growth. Fitness is consider an obvious area where wearables will succeed first but the biggest question is: What's next?

With the launch of Apple's Watch around the corner, consumers' interest on smart watches could explode, creating a very interesting broad market for wearables. With the rise of fast-fashion and more fashion conscious consumers, I consider Intel's move a great start to build a differentiated and relevant position on the wearables market.
