Free mobile internet access in the UK can now be yours for the cost of a SIM card and a few minutes of your time. Samba, a firm in the UK, has launched a free ad-supported broadband service for mobiles. The company says it will provide around 517 megabytes of monthly data in exchange for watching 2.5min commercials a day. Samba has signed-up for "premium ads" from brands such as Volvo, Xbox Kinect, Dell and Clinique. There seems to be no limit on the amount of credit that you can build up.
Will this business model work? I remember a long time ago listening to free ads over the phone in order to place a free long distance call. It might be a useful emergency option for anyone without data / access to free wi-fi nearby. But, really, how often does that happen?
