Just to start something...

So, if you can figure out how...you should watch the Opening Ceremonies from the Olympics. Yea, I know, I may be in the vast minority here, but I loved them. Truly. The theater producer in me was excited at the idea of 7 years and $54 million to do a one-off event. But how do that apply to us, in our Digital Marketing Class?
Well, after you see the ceremonies, you will know that there was an entire section called "Love in the Digital Age" - complete will little pop up text boxes ala "Pop Up Video," ironically.
Leads me to two questions for our blogosphere -
1) What was the process 7 years ago when they began planning this? Did they know that there were going to make a bunch of political statements followed up by a modern day love story?
2) Once you answer that, you must ask...did they think people were going to like it?!

It is so strange, but the overwhelming opinion, it seems is that people loved the ceremonies, up until they starting doing the modern part. Is it that people don't see the romance of text messages on screen? Are they just more about the flirty eyes and snappy dialogue? Do we still believe in old school love stories? And on an entirely different note - did the English just miss a step by trying to universalize the obsession that Western World has with all that is digital? Is that what the Olympics is about?
