It’s been a long time coming, but today, Apple and Samsung put their gloves
on to duke it out in court. The controversy
is over the style and function of their competing smart phone and tablet
products. Apple states that Samsung (subtly
known for replicating the successful products of others) has copied their Iphone
and Ipad, while Samsung argues that Apple copied their round edges design. With so much animosity between the two
technology giants, you could easily forget that Samsung happens to be one of
Apple's biggest component suppliers. Fueling
the controversy is the growing number of consumers who are adopting Google’s Android
platform, supported by most non-Apple products.
This is where the real risk lies for Apple.
The suit is liable to go nowhere as both product lines are based on
technology designs that have been in existence for nearly a decade. Does anyone remember Windows CE? And Pocket
PC? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_CE. Yes, those were the good old days when crashing
windows were an acceptable, necessary evil.
Did Apple learn nothing from Microsoft’s liberation of its point and
click OS? Apple would be much better
positioned by licensing out their software to other hardware producers, like
Samsung.
