It's just semantics?

The next generation of search will include semantic search. Google is utilizing its intelligence index called the "Knowledge Graph" to produce semantic results, right on the search page. Now you can get basic information on your search without having to click to another page. What does this mean for the future of SEO? If users can get basic information without clicking on a further website from the search results, how much will it affect click through rates.?
The "Knowledge Graph" pulls information from a collection of databases (including Wikipedia, Freebase, Google Local, Google Maps, Google shopping) containing information on 500 million+ people, places, and things. Google teams, people, or places and semantic search results are displayed on right hand side of the results page. Will semantic search affect page rank? Will sites that provide information for semantic searches rank higher?
Could the semantic search results provide a great opportunity for advertising? For example, if you Google "San Franscisco" the semantic search results among the information provides is upcoming events and points of interest. Is there a future for semantic search optimization and/or advertising? It will be interesting to see how search evolves
