Instragram: the power of photos

Instagram has 150 million active users, and Forbes is saying that it is going to start monetizing. Girls love Insta, guys love Insta, everyone loves Insta. While it is clear that the photo sharing service will be valuable for retailers and the like, can pro teams use the service to connect with a new generation of fans? With Facebook feeds being overrun with sponsored posts, and Twitter feeds suffering from the same problem, is Instagram the latest frontier where pro teams can connect with young adults who are looking for a group to join or a culture to become a part of. When I scan the accounts of other pro teams in the NY Metro market, I notice that Instagram is least commercial of the big three. The photos are a mix of promotion and candid pictures of the team, its employees and staff. They give the viewer an inside look into the back-story of the team and its players. There is serious potential via this medium and one that should be utilized before it goes by the way of Facebook and Twitter and becomes another site with banner ads.
