BBC and Twitter recently announced a new partnership under the Twitter Amplify program that will allow BBC to provide original sponsored in-tweet video content under #BBCtrending. The videos will be hosted by Anne-Marie Tomchak and will give viewers a glimpse into the biggest trending topics of the day. Each video will be sponsored and will feature a short pre-roll by the sponsor before the BBC video content.
The tweets will go out to BBC followers and is another step forward in Twitter's goal of introducing sponsored tweets in order to gain revenue. For the BBC, it's a great way of increasing its Twitter presence through unique video content specific to Twitter.
Sponsored video content is a trend that will continue to develop on Twitter as the company looks to increase revenues prior to its IPO, following a similar model to youtube.com.
