Recent reports have stated that Facebook may be introducing a “Want” button. Facebook has yet to confirm the reports, but people are already considering the effect this new button could have on consumers. Such a button will increase the social exposure of many products and, as one article cites “would also allow merchants greater integration with Facebook without having to build their own apps or platforms.”
Facebook has changed a great deal since its inception in 2004. In The Facebook Effect we learn about Zuckerberg’s initial intention for Thefacebook , which was simply connecting people. I wonder how, or if, indications of the consumer’s presence on Facebook will conform to this initial goal. Facebook has made many successful changes to date, so it will be interesting to find out if the “Want” button is indeed introduced and if it is, how Facebook users will react.

Very interesting!Personnally I think this new button is a good strategy to involve the users. Apparently, facebook offers this “want” button in order to enable users to tell their friends what products they want.As the same time, the users are actually telling facebook what they want. Then facebook can gather the marketing data of its 1 billion users. This is obviously better strategy that “beacon”. The users don’t need to worry about their privacy and sometimes people just want to share the products they like with friends. It seems like facebook is always doing big plans for social commerce.
