While I was
searching information about Square (the mobile payments company that has among
its client the glorious Cafe East of Uris Deli) I found an interesting article
(please find the link below) in the NY times that lists the hottest start-ups
of the moment.

Besides the actual choices made by the
journalists in this list (e.g. including Airtime for which we just read a
couple of announcements without seeing even a beta version) what surprised me
the most is that, the majority of these next big start-ups, citing a comment,
are “cute fluffy apps”. I know that it is
tough to make predictions, anyhow I don’t think that we will hear from most of
these start-ups for a long period of time. Of course I’m not referring to
companies such as Dropbox or Square, that provide actual services to
consumers/enterprises that result in real business opportunities (lower costs,
access to higher number of customers ..).
