Interactive Advertising

We've come a long way from the traditional banner advertisements in Web 1.0 days.

A New York Times article features a project that Sony Pictures has been working on to promote an upcoming movie. Sony has developed a game, called Day X Exists, a series of Web episodes and companion challenges that reveal an important plot line. Sony will unveil a new installment each week to keep players coming and increase excitement for the new movie.

"The goal is to reverse the consumer-advertiser relationship. Traditional marketing pushes a message over and over. If people instead pull bits of information into their lives through a game, they are more likely to feel a sense of ownership."

While this is an interesting tactic, it remains to be seen if it will make you want to watch the movie.
