Web meets TV. TV meets Web

So I was checking Techcrunch out today and I saw what I thought is one of the most important pieces of news in the tech world lately. The presentation of Google TV. It looks like finally someone is going to take a serious crack at the web TV market. Some of the stats given by Google in their presentation are staggering:

- TV usage is 4Bn users (vs 1 Bn for computers and 2Bn for mobile), although arguably Google TV is not going to be available for the 4Bn.
- The average American spends 5hrs (!!) a day watching TV.
- The US ad market for TV is $ 70Bn. Seriously big bucks.

As we spend way too much time finding what we want to see, Google could be of real help to the consumer. The product consists of a box that you connect to the TV and to the web.

I believe this is a piece of very good news for the TV watcher and for the market. We can expect Apple to take Apple TV seriously now and offer a real alternative. There is more to come in the Web TV space, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
