Google Wallet- a little too late?

Google wallet now works with multiple credit cards

Google's app, Wallet, now works with multiple credit cards.  Previously, it only worked for Citibank customers and Sprint phone users.  However, it is still bound by the phone limitations.  Google is utilizing Cloud to store all credit card information rather than a chip.  Google wallet uses NFC- near field communication to communicate wirelessly.  Only stores which have registers with this technology are able to accept Wallet.

It does appear that Google will have to think hard and fast about how to differentiate  as Apple has the natural edge.  With over 400 million active accounts, Apple and iTunes are poised to be the giants in this space. People with Apple products already have their credit cards linked and purchase regularly.  It is a matter of time before Apple is ready to unveil how they want to use this information for a superior customer experience.
