When a YouTube advert works!

99% of the time when surfing YouTube if there is the option we all skip the advert as quickly as possible, we don’t even register what the advert is for, but wait, with the curser hovering over the countdown before you can skip the advert and get to what you were waiting to watch. But very occasionally you see an advert like this:

The hilarious advert, which has been watched almost 15million times since being published a month ago, for a new product called PooPourri (www.poopourri.com) appears to be a joke. However, soon into the advert it states: “this is actually a real product” and then an icon appears on the video, so that you can click to buy the product directly (a scent according to the website which “leaves the toilet smelling better than you found it”).  The product itself is incredibly random and is not something you accidently stumble across, either in a store or when searching online. The success of the advert placed on YouTube can be seen by their statement: “Our new YouTube video has constipated our shipping system. In one week traffic on our website increased over 13,000% Holy crap, right! We are working day and night, but please give us up to 2 weeks to get your PooPourri shipment out the door. Make sure to order now to get in line!” When going on the site, the majority of their products have sold out. This all goes to show, an original, witty YouTube advert can be the making of a business!
