An Analyst Who Loves Youtube

Here's an interesting article detailing a recent Piper Jaffray analyst report on Youtube. Although the division is still a money loser for Google, they are making a strong push into video advertising having recently closed deals with Verizon, Disney, and Xbox among others.  Also noted in the report is a shift towards in video advertisements and away from banner ads on the site.   This is interesting because it means that Google is making some headway in using their vast library of user-generated content to create revenue from advertisers.  Another interesting revelation in this report is Youtube's shift towards offering paid download services as opposed to just streaming.  This suggests that Google may be thinking about making Youtube into both the primary destination for streaming as well as an iTunes style marketplace.  If this were to come to fruition, Youtube has the ability to become a major competitor online to Apple.
