With all the trouble going on in today’s music business respectively music consumption, the perfect application for music industry and music listeners might be “an all-inclusive, all-encompassing, free, ad-supported streaming music service”. Spotify, a new music streaming service on the web that has three levels of use – free with adverts, a day pass for $1.45, and a monthly pass for $12 – makes it possible with an iTunes like interface. It is currently only available in European countries such as the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
This is already a threat for the download based iTunes and might get an even bigger threat whenever this application comes on the iPhone and other smart phones based on Symbian and Android. And there is evidence in form of a video that this is actually planned. This leaves open the question whether or not Apple plays nicely and gives this iPhone application clearance as this might seriously hit their revenues as people will probably prefer to listen on a flat rate basis than to pay for downloading songs.
