"There is a NEW PRIVACY setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-Facebook websites and it is automatically set to "Allow".
It works this way: Facebook added a new feature that allows some partner sites like Docs.com or Pandora to access Facebook users' personal info. This allow them to immediately personalize your experience on their site. For example, Pandora (the online radio) will recommend streaming music stations that match with your tastes listed on facebook.
It seems to me that this issue is strictly related to what we said in class about Facebook. Facebook platform is more and more open and this could cause some privacy issues...
Clearly, you may think that it is annoying that another site knows your personal information (I personally don't like it). Since this option is enabled by default, you may want to change the settings. To do so, follow these simple steps:
Go to Account> Privacy Settings> Applications and Websites and clic on the last button "Instant personalization".
Then uncheck the box "Allow select partners to instantly personalize their featureswith my public information when I first arrive on their websites.
Hope this helps!
