Crowd Sourced Marketing?

When you hear the term digital marketing people predominately think ads on google, social media and viral video.  However, with many things turning to crowdsourced material (Kickstarter99designs, Etsy) its only a matter of time until someone figures out how to crowdsource online marketing.

This thought came to me when I saw this article on The Next Web "Soundwave is a new take on sharing your music taste on the go, and lets you discover what others are listening to around you" which describes a new app Soundwave which allows the discovery of new music by allowing you to hear what others are listening to around you.  Imagine walking through central park, pulling up your Soundwave app, and being able to search through songs that everyone one else in central park is listening too.  Its an anonymous tool meaning you can't actually see who is listening to what because that could be pretty embarrassing if someone discovered I put Miley Cyrus' Party in the U.S.A. consistently on repeat!

User generated content is king. In the start-up world he who figures out how to inspire those surfing the interweb to publish all their content for them can dominate or get enough users in a short amount of time to sellout to Google, Yahoo or Facebook.

I'm sure there is someone working on this very idea but think about the possibilities.  Having millions of people actively promoting your brand without much effort on your end.  Talk about a potential cash cow.

Truthfully, I have zero idea what the solution would look like but it would incorporate the basics from word-of-mouth, trending information, social media posts, and a possibly SEO/Digital marketing experts bidding to market your brand.  Do you have any ideas on what this type of solution would look like?
