"The good wife" against a search engine accused of manipulating results

In the "the good wife" season 4, episode 3, the main character Will Garner represents an internet startup in a lawsuit against a search engine accused of manipulating results. (For those who do not watch this TV series: The setting is basically in a law firm, with different cases happen in each episode.) In this episode, two young girls who set up a voice-recognized software company accused "Chumhum"has make impact in the searching system to let their search result drop to  page 28 from the page 1 because they refused to purchase ads on "Chumhum".

"Chumhum" can hardly defense themselves since it is true they can/will revise the system everyday in order to make sure they avoid spam/wrong pages. "Chumhum" also refused to reveal how exactly the searching system/ algorithm works in order to keep the business secret. These facts all gave the two girl better chance to win the case.

Anyone who is interesting in this story can search for the episode.

Is it true that you can hardly tell if your webpage natural rank has been fairly allocated in big search engine such as google? We can discuss this.

There is funny in the end of this episode: Chumhum chairman hate the main character of the law firm, thus, he changes the searching system. whenever people search for the lawyers name-Will Garner, they will received suggestion "do you want to search for-Will Garner the disbarred lawyer?"
