Hey there,

I just finished watching the news. Once again, one of the top stories addressed the latest republican scandal and the creepy Marc Foley. As we all know by now, it seems that he has a strange affinity for his young charges. Unfortunately, all the usual halfwits and technophobes are piping up and pointing fingers at the internet and some of the biggest services (like myspace).

It seems a bit strange to point the finger of accusation at the internet and sites like myspace. Wackos like Mr. Foley have been around forever, and this isn’t even the first scandal within the page program. Something similar happened way back in the 80’s, long before the world wide web existed. Check it out: The 82 Scandal.

It seems that although the Internet increases access and information - it also facilitates identification, tracking and capture. And to make things even easier, users of the net tend to believe their communications are private, when really they are easily logged and monitored. This is probably what happened to Foley. If it weren’t for email, Foley might still be spending his days preaching morals - and he evenings chasing around little page boys. As another well known and controversial Repulican recently said – “We’re gonna smoke’em out”.
