“This Maker of MP3’s Did Think Different” - NY Times Article – 10/5/06
This article dares to ask why no one has come up with a better mp3 player. Why has Apple dominated in this field with the Apple ipod for such a long period of time? Basically, instead of thinking differently, competitors just chose to imitate the ipod.
On the other hand, Samsung’s new YP-K5 is totally new and innovative. It can’t play songs from ipod, but can play songs from Rhapsody, napster and yahoo.
What’s different? It has built in speakers (think boom-box!). It looks like a cross between a tiny laptop and a tine boom box. It has the best little speakers ever! This is how the K5 will differentiate itself from the Ipod. It also works as an alarm clock.
I sort of miss the days of my bright pink boom box. This product definitely will find its niche, since sharing music with your friends is sometimes even more fun than listening all by yourself.
