Google Founders: No More 40-hour Work Week

Google Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin did a joint interview last week-rare phenomenon-and they stated some truly important things. Page, currently Google's CEO mentioned that society doesn't actually need everyone to work full-time anymore.
That's a statement! Wouldn't we all wish for more hours in a day since we can't do everything we want in 24 hours?

"If you really think about the things that you need to make yourself happy—housing, security, opportunities for your kids—anthropologists have been identifying these things. It's not that hard for us to provide those things," he said. "The amount of resources we need to do that, the amount of work that actually needs to go into that is pretty small. I'm guessing l have been identifying these things. It's not that hard for us to provide those things," Page said. "The amount of resources we need to do that, the amount of work that actually needs to go into that is pretty small. I'm guessing less than 1% at the moment. So the idea that everyone needs to work frantically to meet people's needs is just not true."

One of the key takeaways from their statements was a solution they proposed: to reduce the workweek and perhaps split one full-time job into multiple part-time jobs. That's in my opinion brilliant! Imagine if we had the time to do more than one jobs per day. Not only would we learn at least twice what we are currently learning, but also we would be a step closer to discover what we actually like to do. Finding the job that will change your life, that you’ll love and never get bored, requires that you have been exploring many different things which means years (unless you’re lucky and you find it soon). So think about how great would it be to have enough time to do multiple jobs per day, instead of dedicating all of your professional and personal (hopefully you have one) life on a job that is just okay.
