SEO Tips for Musicians

During our last class, we reviewed a few best practices of getting traffic from organic search and I found the following article interesting as it outlined SEO tips for musicians. Musicians, especially non-commercial ones who are trying to become more recognized, can use SEO strategies to further their music marketing and overall presence on the web without necessarily requiring significant resources.

The following tips are the same as one we had reviewed in class:

  • Decide on a good domain name and title for your site, which preferably includes your band name,
  • Make sure that every page on your website uses the title, meta description an meta keywords tags in the header section,
  • In order for the search engine to recognize pictures posted on our website, make sure to describe the pictures and include your band title in the name file description,
  • Link, link, link! You need to gets links to your site on as many other sites as possible. One way of doing this is commenting on websites, or blogs, or social networks and include links to your site.

The following recommendations were new ones that we did not cover:

  • Keep your website's content fresh. Instantly add information regarding your new music, videos or any tour information on the website,
  • Develop unique content and add insider information about the band. An "About Us" section will allow search engines to crawl it for search results,
  • The more unique content you provide for search engines to crawl, the higher your chance is to be found in search results, so make sure to include your lyrics and other materials on your own website.
  • Add social media like buttons on the pages of your website that you want to rank well in search results.
