Uber-Like Payments To Restaurants
I am amazed that someone has yet to create a company that can easily handle mobile payments to restaurants, bars, and even grocery and retail stores. Waiting for a bill can ruin an entire dining experience, standing on line at the Gap makes you want that teeshirt less, and while Whole Foods has devised a revolutionary checkout process, there are still lines and lines of people waiting to buy a single organic product. Given all the technological advances today, why can’t we create the same experience and ease of checking out in person as we have for online purchases? A few companies have attempted - TabbedOut, Square and, most recently, Cover. Cover may be the most promising (for restaurant payments); a few reasons why are below:
Cover founders Mark Egerman and Andrew Cove decided that a solution was needed to make the experience of paying a check as seamless as paying for a ride on Uber
For users, Cover is designed to allow one-click, instant payments without them even having to get the check. Users simply check in to a restaurant at the start of their meal, and when it’s time for them to pay the final bill, it’s immediately charged to their credit card. They modelled the experience on Uber, which Egerman called “one of the best payment methods” out there.
