How Google Map hackers can destroy a business

We all look frequently on Google maps to see whether a certain restaurant (or any other place) is open, what is the exact location of the place and today we even use the Google reviews more and more often (although compared to Yelp the number of reviews are still limited)

That Googlemaps can have a significant impact on such a business (in this case a restaurant) is not surprising

But what if hackers are able to change the information of your restaurant? As happened to a Serbian restaurant owner in Washington DC, hackers changed the opening times of his restaurant stating that the restaurant was closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The direct effect was a 75% drop in customers.

The restaurant owner hasn't been able to change this information quick enough and had to close his business after 40 years of operation. The restaurant owner is now suing Google for this loss, I don't know if that is the right thing to do, but at least it shows us the impact of the Google Maps these days and the impact hackers can have on the life of a company
