Bill Carmody lists and describes a series of trends facing the digital marketing industry, but 2 in particular caught my attention.
Gig Economy
It seems as though many digital marketers appear weary and conscientious that the gig economy may indeed pose a legitimate threat. As digital marketing becomes an essential investment for many products and industries, more and more people are learning and garnering the skill-set. For smaller, 'start-up' companies that don't have tons of cash to throw around, pursuing a freelance marketer may be the more logical choice (based on cost). This is now the 3rd article I've seen this month from a major source describing the gig economy as the next wave to hit digital marketing.
Deep Personalization
This has been coming for a while now. Logging into Facebook, Twitter and other websites only to see an advertisement for the product I nearly purchased seems like last year's trend. It is intimidating to consider what could be next in the world of digital marketing customization. Are radio ads in my morning car ride going to start doing the same?
