Augmented Reality (AR) are a computer generated images that are over imposed on real-life images. AR became really popular with filters on social media (think doggie ears on Snapchat)
One of the applications used by marketers nowadays is to use AR as a way for consumers to "try" products online before purchasing.
Last year Ikea gave consumers an opportunity to see if a couch, would work in their space. This year Facebook has taken it a step further by testing AR advertising in their newsfeed ads.
As a person scrolls, and sees the ad they can "tap to try" the product
on them.
I've encountered AR as a consumer when purchasing new glasses and a ring. I was able to try different combinations until I found one I like. What is great about ads is that we would be able to target people as they go about their online lives without having them download an app or go to our website to try our products.
