California Consumer Privacy Act
In late June, CA passed a new Consumer Privacy Act that introduced new privacy requirements for businesses. The law will take effect beginning in 2020 and apply to firms that do business in California. As reported by the New York Times, the law aims to grant consumers more control over how their personal information is stored and the ability to tell firms to delete their information. While the new law is not as expansive as GDPR in the EU, it is considered to be one of the strictest state laws in the U.S.
