Live video programming has been a norm in traditional TV, but live online video programming is newly forming as an emerging media vehicle. A recent Ad Age article reported on AOL's commitment with HuffPost Live for live programming on the web. However, AOL Live is on hold because the executive in charge of the platform recently left and HuffPost Live is also dealing with some technical and programming issues.
Currently, live online programming is rare. Live streaming is largely being used to view sports games. However, live online TV has the potential to grow and become another platform on which users consume live content. It's more convenient as people rely on their laptops and mobile devices to provide more up to date content. If a live content producer is able to define itself as the "go to" spot for live online video, it has the potential for first mover advantage and developing a loyal fan base.
