Index Brings Analytics to the In-store Experience

Index is a new personalization and analytics company founded by the original members of the Google Wallet team. They have announced new funding of $7mn in the series A round.

Index offers retailers a software integration that plugs into their point-of-sale terminals. The software is downloaded on a retailer's point of sale, and can then link in-store, online, mobile and social engagement with the retailers. For customers who opt in, retailers are able to deliver a personalized service (similar to what Amazon does).

The way this is done, is that first, the software provides a linked identity for customers, and enables retailers to develop unified customer profiles. Second, the software allows for extensive data mining.

While Index does not have any big name retailers on board yet, the software is being used by a small chain of cupcake stores in San Francisco.
