Signpost to help small businesses automate digital marketing

Signpost is a startup that aims to help small businesses tackle digital marketing in a way that competes with big corporates.  Essentially, Signpost offers businesses software that automates online marketing, in particular linked with "presence, customer information and remarketing." The startup claims that its software can take care of all of the marketing needs for small businesses for only $150 per month.

To do this, Signpost will promote what they call "conversation events" during which they offer discounts across various social media channels, thus allowing the company to start conversations with new potential customers and then maintain an ongoing relationship.

Clearly investors see the benefit of this as Signpost just received almost $10 million in funding. Personally, I have doubts that an automated strategy can truly rival one that is human managed given the intricacies of the different social media channels and the need for real interaction with consumers and the ability to respond quickly and creatively (ie oreo during the superbowl blackout).  While I think this is a huge step forward for companies that can't afford more, an automated strategy is still a long way off for bigger brands.
