Mobile Apps Dominating the Web

The iOS and Android devices will double the number of device activations during its first five years compared to the number of internet users reached during its five years. This massively growing device installation lead to 40 billion applications downloaded from the App Store and Android Market. Consumers rapidly started shifting from the traditional website to the mobile applications and last summer, smartphone users finally began spending more time in their mobile applications than browsing the web. Among the applications Facebook plays a big role in the shift. Facebook is the most used app on Android among 14-44 year olds and Facebook Messenger became the top downloaded app. The drop of time spent on traditional web was driven largely by a decrease in time spent on Facebook from the traditional web.

Except for the time when I was working and had to use the computer all the time, I usually use my phone more than my laptop. Especially after Facebook became so easy to use via mobile application I obtained a bad habit of robotically checking my Facebook. You can check your email, browse through websites and chat with your friends through your phone. Some of the activities are easier on phone than the computer because the mobile application keeps upgrading and evolving. Maybe in the future, there might come a time when smartphones and tablets will be replacing the desktops and laptops.
