A blog for students of Professor Kagan's Digital Marketing Strategy course to comment and highlight class topics. From the various channels for marketing on the internet, to SaaS and e-commerce business models, anything related to the class is fair game.

Social Networking on Training Wheels
Social networking isn’t just for grown-ups anymore. Last month, Togetherville.com launched, providing kids and parents with Facebook on training wheels. Unlike other juvenile social networking sites, Togetherville allows kids to use their real identity, not an avatar, and is based upon the parent’s Facebook profile. Unlike Facebook, the content is tightly controlled and kids are not allowed to ender free form text. They choose from pre-set conversation phrases. Friend requests on Togetherville are submitted to the parents first for approval and kids can only become friends if their parents are also Facebook friends. Togetherville plans to generate revenue through an online allowance model. Parents will put “allowance” in their child’s account which the child can then use to buy apps and play games.
What do you think? How young is too young for social networking?
