Netflix Announces iPhone App While AT&T Eliminates Unlimited Data Plans
Netflix announced an iPhone app today that will allow users to stream movies directly to their iPhones. Introducing this app is further adding to Netflix's strategy of being able to access streaming content on virtually every type of consumer electronics device. Adding to Netflix accounts users jubilation is the fact that the app will be free of charge on the app store. Aligning the company with the iPhone will further cement Netfix as the premier online movie streaming service on with availability on virtually any platform. Coincidentally, AT&T's new data plans for new iPhone subscribers goes into effect today, which will cap download usage at 2GB. In an era where users are relying more and more on data services for their smartphones, AT&T's new pricing plans will add to the frustration among it's subscribers. While it's no surprise that AT&T has experienced severe network congestion over the last couple years, the company is addressing problem the wrong way. Instead of investing in network infrastructure, the company is decreasing the value of it's services for its customers. It remains to be seen if Netflix will cut a separate deal with AT&T which will allow it's users to stream unlimited movies at a fixed price.
