Apple takes iPhone advertising to the next level

Steve Jobs' announcement of iAds may be the most important development from the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. The platform (and, much more importantly, the sales and development of the ads themselves) will be built into iOS4 (the new name for the mobile OS running iPads, iPhones, and iPods), quickly allowing app developers to gain additional monetization within their applications. Of course, like the App Store and ITunes, this will be a closed-end system, giving Apple monopoly control over enhanced, IN APPLICATION advertising. As Jobs' noted in his speech, "48% of spending on mobile advertising in the United States from July through December of 2010 will go to Apple’s iAd advertising system for its iPhone and iPad portable gadgets."

And Apple used to complain about Microsoft abusing it's monopoly power...
